The Benefits Of Finding Your Style

Over the past year I’ve started to gain a good understanding of my personal style. I’m now halfway through my 20’s and my lifestyle has changed a lot in the past few years. But finding or rather re-assessing our personal style every few years will always be important as our jobs, surroundings and interests continually evolve. So today I wanted to share how I came into my current “look” and how it’s changed my approach to fashion.

All Your Favorites

The most major change I made in the past year was switching to a capsule wardrobe (and subsequently starting my blog). This made me really narrow down what I was buying and when. I also started storing out of season items so they would feel new and fresh again when the season came back around. For a capsule wardrobe there is a great deal of importance placed on the year-round staple items. If you can pinpoint your personal staples then any trendy piece you add to your wardrobe will work seamlessly with the other pieces.

Quality Over Quantity

A big part of starting a capsule wardrobe is buying quality over quantity. I’m already reaping the rewards of this method a year out, as my nicer knitwear hasn’t needed to be replaced and I’ve finally found good denim that fits just right. I know that it’s not always feasible financially to get the best of the best but if you hold off on the “cheap thrill” items, then you’ll be able to invest a little more in the classic pieces. And there’s such a wide range of quality in every budget, sometimes it’s just knowing where and when to shop. I think the high street shops often do really high quality pieces for a more affordable price range and certain stores do certain items really well. Know what you’re looking for in advance so you can pounce on a good sale when it comes around.

It’s Easier To Experiment

When you have a solid core of wardrobe favorites, it becomes so much easier to experiment with your style. You will know what you feel most comfortable wearing day to day and what fits your lifestyle. If you love the look of a trend piece, you will have a better sense of what it will work with in your closet. And it won’t feel like the trend is wearing you because you’ll have those staples to ground your outfit in your personal style, like a great pair of denim or your trusty black loafers. I think this is really the key to personal style, knowing what you like and making it look like you, even if it’s a bit unexpected.

So what do you think are the benefits of knowing your personal style? Maybe the confidence that it gives you or the ability to focus more attention on other areas of your life? I’d love to know your thoughts on personal style and whether you feel you’ve found yours yet. Thank you so much for reading! xx Jessica
