The Best Pants to Wear Now

If you scroll through my Instagram feed, you may notice that I feel pretty at home in a great pair of pants. But once the early days of spring roll around, I start to want to change it up a bit from the dark bottoms I’ve been wearing all winter. Spring is the perfect time to do this because the weather is still unpredictable but it’s not too early to break out some light and airy fabrics, and mix up the silhouettes a bit more. So if you’re looking to spruce up your wardrobe for spring, take a look at my favorite new bottoms of the season.

Washed Denim

I really loved a light washed denim for all times of the year, as they are just so SoCal but this season is when they are most fun to style. I love the vintage cuts but I’m also trying to switch it up some this season with looser fitting straight leg cuts. Mom jeans and high waisted styles are so flattering when paired with fitted blouses and boxy shirt alike. They also look super feminine and understated when paired with a pair of strappy heeled sandals and a cute mini bag.

Shades of White

One of my favorite trends for the season is definitely the white pants. There are countless options and ways to achieve this look, be it cut, material or shade. With cuts, I’m seeing a lot of high waisted and wide leg styles that have a distinctly nautical or bohemian feel. Of course, I’m also a big fan of straight leg denim (watch my three ways to style it here). As for materials, there are several options to choose from that each have their own feeling. Denim and cotton blends are great for everyday while linen can be dressed up or down easily. Everlane is championing this trend and has a lot of great options, including their new chino pants. As for shades, I’m loving cream colored, off-white pants as a cool variation of this trend.

Business Casual

I am all about a tailored pant outside of the usual office getup. They look infinitely cool when dressed down with a t-shirt and sneakers or boots for every day. This spring, I’ve been seeing some really cool pieces in more nontraditional cuts and colors (think pink!). One shape I’m particularly fond of is the cropped, flared pant that has a really 70s feel, especially with a deep pleat down the front. Another style I see a lot of every spring is the paper bag waist pants, the more casual and feminine cousin of the suit pant. And of course, the wide leg suit pant is the fastest way to make an effortless statement. The wider and more flowy, the better!

Relaxed and Ribbed

One trend that I’ve really started to warm up to is the relaxed fit knit pants. There are so many varieties of this style but I really love the flared leg and wide leg cuts. There are also a ton of different materials to play around with textures in your outfit, such as a spandex and cotton blend, a thick knit, ribbed and plisse styles. They sort of act as the midway point between a tailored pant and a sweat or jogger pant, comfort is key but they still look really polished.
