The Winter Staples on Repeat

Now that we’re in the thick of winter over here, I’m starting to notice the same rotation of pieces in my wardrobe getting the most play time. As someone who loves dressing for cold weather, I can still understand getting stuck in the rut of endless sweaters and jeans.

But I think there’s something to be said about having a bit of a uniform from time to time and it’s not all that bad.

The possibility of creating endless outfits from a few key pieces, each one making me feel comfortable and confident in my style, is such a rewarding feeling. So here’s a roundup of the core pieces making up a majority of my outfits right now.

A Camel Coat

My number one favorite thing to chuck on all season is a camel coat. I wear a lot of monochrome outfits so the camel is about as much color as I like to inject in my wardrobe without feeling too unlike myself. A slightly oversized coat creates a more exaggerated silhouette, which looks so chic in my mind. And it has the added bonus of hiding chunkier knits or more simple outfits underneath. Most of my outfits feels a bit incomplete without a piece of outerwear, which doesn’t really work come summer so I’m taking full advantage of it now!

A Denim Alternative

This winter I’ve been trying to switch it up a bit more and opt for something other than jeans. These Everlane Slim Pants have been the perfect alternative because they fit and feel like a comfortable pair of stretchy denim, but they have an ever so slightly more tailored look, without feeling too formal. We need a word for this essential wardrobe hybrid… Slants? (Slacks + Pants)

Chelsea Boots

Ah my trusty Asos chelsea boots, that get pulled out every year at the first sight of rain and carry me (and my thick socks) through to spring. This is just my type of boot; I’ve gone through multiple pairs over the years. I’m also super into the chunkier combat styles I’ve seen this season, as Dr. Martens are another long time favorite of mine.

I remember reading an Alexa Chung quote about wearing shoes that resemble plant pots and that’s exactly how I would describe my ideal shoes, plant pots.

Round Sunnies

These Ray Ban Rounds were a Christmas present (thanks mom!) that I haven’t stopped feeling excited about since unwrapping them. While it’s a bit chillier here, the sun is still out in full force most days so I’m reaching for these daily. They add the perfect bit of polish to an otherwise simple outfit.

A Statement Bag

While the rest of my outfit stays decidedly neutral and simplistic, one place that I like to go for something a bit more statement is my handbag. This Trademark bucket bag is the perfect little companion for a day out and adds a structured element to the outfit. I also love how the handle snaps together to create a triangular shaped bag - two styles for one!

It’s sadly sold out most places but there are still some new and used options floating around out there.
