Happy Valentine’s Day to all of you celebrating! I’m sometimes a little embarrassed to admit that I do really love this holiday, because I love celebrating love! There’s nothing more romantic to me than a bit of care and beauty put into everyday things: fresh flowers in your room, a book of photographs to flip through, a pop of pink in your closet. These are the details that make me feel love for the environment I’m in and fill me with joy. And of course, the people you surround yourself with bring immense joy and love to your daily life too. So today I wanted to give you a few ideas for laidback date activities you can do with someone you love or to take yourself on. The point is to do something just a bit out of the every day to inject beauty and inspiration back into your life, which is the true spirit of Valentine’s Day to me!

Surround Yourself With Art

One of my favorite activities to do is to visit a museum. Yes, I do work at an art museum so I have to admit that ironically I actually do this less often than I used to. But I always make a point to visit museums while traveling. I think it’s such a peaceful and meditative thing to do; walk through a beautiful space and stop for a moment to take in the skill and artistry of each piece. Museums are especially ideal for escaping the cold and the rain and just slowing down the regular pace of life. And it’s a relatively inexpensive date activity too, as many museums are free on certain days.

Become a Tourist in your Town

Is there anything more rewarding than finding a hidden gem in your neighborhood or showing someone else your favorite spots around town? Instagram is actually the main way I find out about cool new places cropping up. I always make sure to bookmark them for those days when I’m unsure of what to do (which is not often) or when I want to try something new. Compare your favorite spots with your friends and then take turns introducing each other to new places - a favorite cafe, book store, scenic view, farmers market, anything really. Sometimes, Kyle and I like to go check out a new restaurant and then spend some time walking around the area to see what’s there. It’s a fun and lowkey way to explore your own city and feel like a tourist again.

Take a Day Trip

If you’re looking for something to do and feeling a bit more adventurous, why not take a day trip somewhere, anywhere. The destination is not as important as the fun of sitting with someone you love (yourself included) and taking in some fresh sights, sweet sounds of a personalized playlist and good conversation. In fact, once you get where you’re going it’s really just a nice break to stretch your legs, explore a bit, maybe grab a bite to eat and then head back. I’ve always loved the excitement of a road trip. Being able to take in the beautiful landscapes of California from a car window has been some of my favorite memories! And I have to add, train rides are also incredibly fun when you’re with the right person!

So there you have it, some ideas for a laidback date to take yourself on, your BFF or your partner. What are your favorite ways to feel that love for life feeling? Let me know in the comments below! Thanks for reading and have a lovely one! xx Jessica
