Easy Summer Pieces To Dress Up

This season I’ve been trying to get away from daily jeans and t-shirts in an effort to embrace my summer wardrobe more. Granted, there’s not a whole lot to get dressed up for these days, but it has been nice to wear some more tailored (yet comfortable) pieces day to day in order to feel a little more put together. I wanted to highlight some pieces from my summer capsule wardrobe that work for both lounging around the house now and getting dressed up in later. As someone whose not a huge fan of summer clothing, I’ve found that leaning towards a more minimal and oversized silhouette really works for my comfort level and personal taste. So here’s a few versatile summer pieces that can easily be dressed up when the occasion arises.

No. 1 - Linen Shirt

I’ve talked about this summer staple before but I really think this is one of the most versatile pieces you can have in your summer capsule wardrobe. The material is what differentiates it from the other year-round blouses in your closet. There’s nothing more effortless and summery than a crisp white linen blouse. And it looks great with all types of pairings: a silk midi skirt, a bikini, some sleek pants, light wash denim, you name it!

No. 2 - Neutral Bottoms

Light colored neutral bottoms can be a bit intimidating if you’re prone to food-related accidents like me. But I like to opt for an off-white or beige (stark white feels too pristine) because it gives any outfit that sort of nautical vibe that I love. There’s something so refreshing about a pair of neutral bottoms hanging in your closet and it really opens up the styling possibilities for monochromatic or color block looks. They make a great summer alternative to basic black slacks. I’m currently loving the High Rise Pants from Tribe Alive, which is the most flattering wide leg pant I’ve found.

No. 3 - Co-ord Set

While I’ve not been able to commit to a jumpsuit just yet, I’ve found that co-ord sets are a less scary alternative. Because they can be worn together or separately, I would suggest sticking to a neutral color or one that will easily mix with lots of other pieces in your wardrobe. They look ultra sleek when paired together, making for a chic and easy outfit for dressier summer occasions. The newest addition to my closet is the Everyday Crop Set from Tribe Alive.

No. 4 - Strappy Heeled Sandals

While I’m often tempted to wear my Loq Ara Sandals year-round in San Diego, I try to save them especially for dressier summer activities. The minimal design look so effortless and chic when paired with the billowy oversized silhouettes of my summer capsule wardrobe. And the shoe has a a lovely warm, peachy color to it that feels very season-appropriate. A sleek minimal sandal with a bit of a heel is a total winner for summer occasions or just to elevate an everyday look.

No. 5 - Woven Handbag

A major S/S favorite of mine, the woven bag has been having a moment for quite some time now and I don’t see it going away any time soon. It makes the best occasion accessory because it brings a more laidback summery feel to any outfit. I love a woven basket bag paired with a floral midi dress or a pair of tailored pants and heels. I bought mine at SOCCO Design a year or so ago and it’s something I always look forward to breaking out in the warmer months.
