This year I’ve finally got serious about a workout routine at home. And with that came the fun part of finding activewear that works for me. Luckily we are pretty spoiled for choice these days when it comes to sustainable activewear. Here are a few of the brands I’ve been moving, sweating, and lounging in all summer.

Organic Basics

I’m a big fan of Organic Basics comfortable and ethical basics, from their bralettes to their white crew neck tees. So I was excited when they asked me to try out their activewear set too. It’s made of odor-fighting recycled material and unlike other brands I’ve tried, it’s a thinner material ideal for summer workouts. The seamless Sports Bra is comfortable and secure feeling without being too constricting. And it’s proven particularly handy during the heatwave we experienced over the last few days. The Leggings are some of my favorites; high-waisted, sweat-wicking and actually flattering.

Girlfriend Collective

My main question before trying out this brand was, “Does it live up to the hype?” and in my humble opinion, it does. After months of speculation and waiting fo a restock I bought the Paloma Bra and the Compressive High-Rise Leggings in black. And then a little while later I added another pair of leggings in Moss to my collection because I was wearing them so much. What I like about Girlfriend is that the fit is so flattering and doesn’t bunch up in the seat area as so many leggings do in my experience. They’re high waisted and ethically made from recycled plastic bottles. The Paloma bra is like an extra long sports bra so it feels more like wearing a crop top if you’re still a bit uncomfortable with the whole bra as a top thing. All of the sets also come in a great range of colors and sizing.

And Everything Else

I thought I’d mention a few other notable activewear purchases in case your idea of a workout is more time on the trails and less time on a yoga mat in your living room. First off, my favorite active sneaker is the Nike Roshe One. I’m now on my second pair (which I purchased a couple of years ago) and I know they’ll last me a good long while.

I also recently had to buy a couple of pieces for my trip to Alaska that I tested out on many a hike and can now confidently recommend. The first is the Patagonia Better Sweater which I got in the jacket style. It was the perfect lightweight everyday layer I needed and filled a “practical outerwear" hole in my closet. But the real MVP of my Alaska trip was the 80’s-inspired Jag Hiking Boots from cult favorite Danner. I initially found the boots on Free People’s website, searched around online and found them for a deep discount on the Back Country website. I broke them in on a 2 mile hike and then an 8 mile hike the next day without a blister in sight, amazing! While being a smidge heavier than some boots, they are super cushiony, waterproof and (dare I say it) stylish. If you’re in the market for a pair of sustainable hiking boots, check out all the lovely suggestions I received on this IG post.
