Tour A Cape Town Heritage Cottage

Home Away From Home

On the last stretch of my three-month Cape Town trip, I had the pleasure of staying in a sweet little heritage cottage off of Kloof Street in the Gardens neighborhood. This self-catering cottage is part of a boutique hotel but I was able to book it directly through Airbnb. This turned out to be the perfect bookend to my trip and I just had to snap a few shots to share it with you all!

Long Haul Trips & Living Like A Local

I split my trip into a few month-long Airbnb rentals and a couple of shorter stays in between, which happened to be the perfect mix. I stayed here for about a week, which was the perfect amount of time for me given the space and amenities. This spot is ideal for those who prefer more laidback accommodations, akin to renting an apartment and living like a local.

Space To Unwind

I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the apartment and how bight and light-filled it was. The separate living room and kitchen gave me plenty of room to spread out, live and work. While I didn’t make too many meals at home (there’s so many great restaurants in walking distance), it was nice to have the option of keeping a few snacks and groceries on hand. I also found the space quite conducive to getting work done. All of the cottages are situated on a quiet street.

Having A Bath

I was also greeted by a lovely big, bright and updated bathroom right off of the bedroom. It had a separate shower and bathtub which I managed to take full advantage of during my stay. I can’t tell you how enjoyable it was to pour a glass of wine in the evening and soak in the bath for an hour while reading or listening to music. A good bathroom really makes a stay. Wouldn’t you agree?

Exploring The Neighborhood

One huge draw of this spot is the neighborhood! I stayed on and around Kloof Street for the majority of my trip and it quickly became one of my favorite areas in Cape Town. There are so many restaurants, cafes, bars and interesting little shops along the several blocks of Kloof Street. It’s a really walkable neighborhood, with something to do and see at any time of the day. It’s also adjacent to the Tamboerskloof neighborhood, Bree and Long street, a short drive into De Waterkant. While there I even rented a road bike and biked from Kloof St. to the Seapoint Promenade in a couple of hours. Basically, if you want to base yourself in a slightly quieter neighborhood (compared to the CBD) then this is the perfect central location to explore Cape Town.

Outdoor Space

One of the features that made me most excited to stay here was the private outdoor space off of the bedroom. It was so nice having the option to open up the french doors and let the warm summer air run through the bedroom. I loved being able to read, sip on my morning coffee and enjoy a muesli bowl outside. All of the apartments are quite close together and yet it felt completely private and secluded, like a peaceful little green haven right in town.

If you’re planning to visit Cape Town soon or you’re looking for a nice staycation, definitely bookmark this space for your next trip!
