My 5 Current Favorites

Today I thought I’d do something a little different and share 5 things that I’m currently enjoying. This is a wide range of things from an accessory to a podcast, so don’t feel like you have to break out your wallet to get in on the fun. Everything on this list is something I’ve been using/watching/listening to on repeat, so you can be sure the lurv is real!

Uniqlo

Number 1 is a very new wardrobe favorite, and that is the Extra Fine Knit Merino Wool Sweater from Uniqlo. I recently picked up this sweater in three versatile and beautiful colors; a creamy off-white, a dark camel brown, and a light gray. I absolutely love these because they are great quality, they are made of natural fibers, and full price, they cost $30. It just doesn’t get much better than that when it comes to capsule (or any) wardrobe essential. This particular style of sweater is something I’ve bought on repeat from Zara, but the quality just doesn’t compare, and there is no guarantee that I will be able to repurchase it in the future, as styles filter in and out of Zara so quickly. This Uniqlo purchase is probably the smartest one I’ve made all year and I can’t wait to add more pieces into my basics rotation.

Number 2 is The Mustards podcast which is the only podcast I can recommend because it’s the only one I listen too. I don’t know why, but I’ve just never gotten into podcasts before, and I did try. I think it partially stems from being an extremely visual person, and I often fall into a daze while listening to talk radio and audio books. I rediscovered Jenny Mustard on YouTube several months ago (late as usual), someone I used to love back when Lookbook.nu was popular (a quick google search reveals it’s still going strong). Apparently that was an entire decade ago. Writing this is making me feel like I’ve been surfing the interwebs for a little too long but it’s also really cool and nostalgic at the same time! But I digress, I really love WATCHING this podcast because Jenny and David are 1. very talented visual creators, 2. generally very cool and stylist people, and 3. #couplegoals with their comedic timing and hilarious banter. They speak a lot about their experiences as minimalist, feminist, vegan Swedes (living in Berlin) who are also business owners and creatives working in a relatively new and unconventional industry. Their catch phrase even inspired one of my recent insta captions.

Number 3 is my new JW Pei bag, which you may have heard me going on about in my Capsule Wardrobe Series Pt. 2 post or my Fall Season Favorites post. This brand has been at the top of my wishlist for a bit. The trouble came with deciding on a style and color, and after much deliberation I finally landed on the Fiona bag in black. I have to say, I’m loving it! I’m so impressed by the quality of the vegan leather bag and all the really on-trend styles it comes in. The Fiona bag holds a lot for the size so it makes for a great every day bag. 'I’ve also been looking for a more affordable version of the Mansur Gavriel bucket bag and circle bag, so the JW Pei versions are next on my wishlist.

Number 4 is one of a very few makeup products I use every day and that is the e.l.f. Intense Ink Eyeliner in Blackest Black. I’m pretty sure I heard about this product from a YouTube video and seeing as I wear liquid eyeliner every day, I actually took it upon myself to try it out. It is honestly so good for being a $4 drugstore product. I love how thick and precise it is, so it gives you the option of doing a really nice wide cateye or a really thin line. It also just doesn’t smudge like other brands I’ve tried and it’s really opaque and not too shiny (something that bothers me a lot with similar products). I always love finding those bargain products that just work and this is definitely one of them!

Number 5 is a kind of silly one, and I’m just really late to the party on this one, but I really love watching the British show, The IT Crowd, which first aired back in 2010, and which I’ve recently discovered (and devoured all 4 seasons of) on Netflix. Good old Netflix. I love Richard Ayoade from watching Travel Man and his own film, Submarine. I even saw him once in a vintage shop in Atlanta, weirdly enough. I don’t know why I saw Travel Man before The IT Crowd, or why this show is so appealing to me now but it’s so relaxing and hilarious and this list would be incomplete without a mention.
