Fall New In Pieces & How To Style Them

As someone who is quite cautious when it comes to adding pieces to my wardrobe, I find a new season to be a bit daunting. More often than not, I see things that I love, either in the store or online, and then wait and wait until the season is almost over in the hopes that something better will come along. This premature buyers remorse has led me to miss out on so many things that I probably would have got a lot of use out of had I purchased them before they sold out. So this season, I’ve made a conscious decision to shop deliberately and find those pieces I know I will LOVE. Now, let me share with you some pieces that are making me feel ready to take on the rest of the year.

The Perfect Pair of Denim

Jeans are such an integral part of my wardrobe. I honestly feel more cool and stylish in my comfiest pair of denim then I do in a skirt or dress most days. My favorite style, and what I think suites me best, is something with a high-waist and slim leg. I’ve found my new favorite pair from Zara and they check all those boxes and were even pretty reasonably priced too. I’ve read before that when it comes to denim, high street brands (Zara, H&M, Topshop, UO, etc.) really are just as good as some of the designers and I really believe that.

Neutral Knit & White Sneakers

When it comes to knits I am all about a pullover and I like them to have a lot of space for layering and to style oversized. I found this wonderful taupe number from H&M. I absolutely love the cut, the cowl neckline and the slightly balloon shaped sleeves. The only thing I’m not 100% sold on is the materials: a mixture of mostly acrylic and about 8% wool. That said, I would love to upgrade this wardrobe staple with a nicer quality sweater down the road, perhaps in cashmere or a natural fiber blend.

I’m also incredibly excited to tell anyone who will listen that I’m now sort of, kind of into sneakers. I’ve never considered myself a sneaker person and have always worn them out of necessity without considering the immense styling possibilities. And then I found the Adidas Stan Smith sneakers and I knew they were the perfect minimalist styling staple. I love the sleekness and versatility of them, how they can make a really dressy outfit more wearable day to day.

Plaid Blazer & Denim Shorts

I picked up this lovely plaid blazer at Nordstrom Rack. I’d been searching high and low for the perfect blazer in my price range and this met all my criteria while also super on sale. I love the styling options for a piece like this- so smart, so stylish!

It may seem weird to include denim shorts in a Fall season edit, but here in San Diego the sunny days will continue well into Winter. I found this perfectly fitting pair of denim jeans from H&M to see my through. I’m even considering getting them in black too.

The Everyday Midi

I found this polka dot midi skirt from Asos and knew it would go far in my wardrobe. It’s so simple to style and look elegant and polished while being super laid back. I can’t wait to style this with graphic tees, my beloved leather jacket and some cool heeled boots for Fall.

Tailored Pants

Another trend that I think is very well suited to my personal style is tailored pants. Especially if you find a wide leg pair, they can be super comfortable while still being super polished looking. I love the pinstripe pattern of this pair from H&M. I can’t wait to style these with my Stan Smith sneakers or loafers and big chunky knits or casual tees. This really is a versatile piece and I’m considering adding a plaid pair to my growing collection too.

Colorful Corduroy

Perhaps my favorite trend this season is all the colorful corduroy I’ve been seeing. And there’s so much to choose from: wide leg pants, cropped flares, blazers, pinafores, baker boy caps, the list goes on. I love anything with a subtle 70s vibe as I think it makes a lot of sense with my look (AKA my big fro). I picked up two pairs of a cropped flared pair from H&M, one in the most smile-inducing shade of pink and another in black. I can’t wait to style these with turtlenecks, colorful striped sweaters and heeled boots for a casual retro look or with block heels and a simple silk tank for the evening. I’m getting excited just thinking about it.

A Long Shirt Dress

Rounding out this New In selection with a dress that makes me feel fab in a really ME kind of way. I love the peter pan collar and the buttons that go all the way down on this long shirt dress from Zara. I picked up the polka dot pattern in the sale but I will link this season’s floral pattern here. This dress can be paired with sneakers or boots for a more casual vibe or with heels for a more evening appropriate look. It’s super comfortable - basically like wearing a big roomy shirt, and there is the added bonus of hiding leggings underneath when winter arrives.
